Rubus reflects the character of the quaint town of Berry on the NSW South Coast. The properties blend classic style with organic materials and a touch of colour for fun. These elements are inspired by Berry and its surroundings, which was our goal in the design process.2. Your design ethos is all about infusing a holiday vibe into every home. How did you bring that feeling to life in the Rubus project?
From the moment guests arrive, we aim to evoke a holiday atmosphere. It starts with natural stone cobbles at the entry, continues with coloured front doors, and extends to every detail, including toiletries and striped sun umbrellas by the pool. We aim for guests to feel they lack nothing and can simply relax and enjoy that holiday feeling we strive for at SOUL Home.3. What challenges did you encounter while designing Rubus, and how did you overcome them to maintain the project’s design ethos?
A significant challenge was designing three identical properties with distinct personalities. We overcame this by introducing distinct colours—Rubus Blue, Rubus Pink, and Rubus Green. Simple elements like painted front doors and themed artwork throughout each property helped maintain architectural unity while providing individual character.4. What specific design style defines the Rubus project?
Using our SOUL Home 70/20/10 style, Rubus is described as 70% contemporary/classic, 20% organic, and a final 10% of colour and fun. This blend creates a timeless yet lively aesthetic that enhances the guest experience.5. You value quality craftsmanship and bespoke elements. What are some of your favourite design features or architectural details in Rubus?
One of my favourite features is the built-in seat with an oversized window in the upstairs front guest room. It’s a beautiful spot to soak in the sun and unwind. The double-height ceiling over the sitting area creates a captivating focal point, drawing guests in and providing a cozy retreat, especially in winter.7. How do you envision guests interacting with and experiencing the spaces within Rubus, from the common areas to the private rooms?
I envision guests congregating around the kitchen island, which is the home’s heart. In summer, the back deck and plunge pools will be popular spots for cooling off and spending time with family and friends. Each private room is designed as a personal retreat for relaxation and enjoyment.8. Can you share any unique or innovative design elements in Rubus that set it apart from other properties in the Linnaeus Collection?
Rubus distinguishes itself within the Linnaeus Collection with a youthful and playful aesthetic while maintaining the signature classic and timeless design. Its ability to accommodate large groups across three properties yet still offer an intimate feel makes Rubus a standout option for guests seeking both charm and versatility in Berry.
