Architectural design approach for Moraea Farm —from concept to completion
Our design philosophy centres on creating spaces that nurture meaningful connection — with the land, the architecture, and one another. Moraea Farm was envisioned as a restorative retreat, where guests can slow down, breathe deeply, and feel grounded by both the natural surroundings and the thoughtful interior detailing.
A deep respect for place underpins everything we do. Rather than imposing a new identity, we aim to amplify and honor what already exists — enhancing the character of the original structures while staying true to our broader ethos of timeless luxury and sustainable design. At Moraea, that meant working with the property’s agricultural legacy: retaining much of the original house, repurposing existing sheds and materials, and allowing the landscape to inform the design. The result is a space that feels both familiar and renewed.
Every concept we develop begins with two guiding questions: How will this space function? And how will it make people feel? We see constraints not as limitations, but as opportunities — a chance to tell a deeper story that weaves together nature, history, and hospitality. The outcome is an experience that feels intentional, timeless, and deeply connected to its environment, enhancing our ethos of ‘regional luxury experiences enriched by nature’

Design Solutions Born from Architectural Limitations
The most significant challenge was working within the limitations of the existing structure — an approach that proved to be both a gift and a test. The original building held real charm, a tangible sense of history, and strong ties to its setting, but it also came with practical obstacles: raw concrete flooring, an exposed commercial kitchen, limited services, and tight spatial constraints.
Rather than imposing contemporary solutions onto an older shell, we took a considered, adaptive approach — respecting the original framework while introducing complementary upgrades that felt true to the property’s identity. Skylights were added to draw in natural light and elevate the overall mood of the space.
The outcome is an environment that feels both grounded and refined — where the character of the past supports the functionality of modern living. In many ways, the constraint became the catalyst for Moraea’s distinct appeal.
The interiors are anchored in quality furnishings from GlobeWest, whose pieces bring a sense of texture, character, and timelessness to every room. Our design ethos reflects the Linnaeus Collection’s commitment to creating architectural stays that feel as grounding as they are beautiful.

A Favourite GlobeWest Feature at Moraea Farm
One of our favourite GlobeWest pieces used at Moraea Farm is the Piccolo bar stool. The rich chocolate-toned leather paired with its sleek, modern frame beautifully captures our design ethos — bringing together contrasting textures and forms to create a sense of grounded luxury and connection. It’s a piece that feels both timeless and intentional, perfectly suited to the layered warmth of the space.
When curating furniture from GlobeWest’s range, we were particularly drawn to pieces that balanced aesthetic appeal with commercial durability. The outdoor chairs, crafted from resilient woven plastic, paired effortlessly with the timeless teak dining tables. Powder-coated table bases and chair frames offered both strength and practicality — their textured matte finish resists visible fingerprints and wears beautifully over time. Importantly, the neutral, understated colour palette ensures the pieces remain classic rather than trend-driven.
The Piccolo Dining Chairs, upholstered in a rich green tone, also made a lasting impression. They add a considered burst of colour that complements the interior palette of the accommodation, while maintaining the comfort and quality essential for high-use spaces.

Designing for Commercial vs Residential Use
Designing Moraea Farm’s commercial space required an individual approach. At Moraea, the goal was to elevate a raw, barn-like interior while preserving the character of the ivy-clad façade and the sun-dappled alfresco area beneath the surrounding trees. The layout needed to be flexible — able to comfortably host both intimate gatherings and larger groups — with a focus on flow, function, and longevity.
Soft textures and durable furnishings support everyday use, creating an atmosphere that is both relaxed and refined. Moraea prioritises robustness and spatial adaptability for high-volume traffic.

How would you describe the aesthetic of Moraea Farm?
How do you hope guests feel when they stay?
“Our aim is always to design a space that brings people together. When guests walk in and instantly feel calm and inspired—when they open a bottle of wine, put on some music, and the kids run to explore the house and gardens—that’s when we know we’ve succeeded. Moraea is more than just a luxury farmstay in Berry; it’s an invitation to reconnect, slow down, and savour shared experiences, including luxury dining in a farm setting.”
